Synopsis: In New York Metropolis, Harper (Zoey Deutch) and Charlie (Glen Powell) are two overworked assistants. Harper’s boss is movie star sports activities journalist Kirsten (Lucy Liu), whereas Charlie serves enterprise capitalist Rick (Taye Diggs). Realizing they won’t have a life until their bosses are distracted by romance, Harper and Charlie concoct a plan to have Kirsten and Rick meet and fall in love.
What Works Effectively: The writing is often witty, and Zoey Deutch brings quirky self-aware vitality to Harper’s frazzled life.
What Does Not Work As Effectively: As predictable as rom coms get, this one is beset by the protagonists meekly surrendering to obnoxious boss behaviour, and for doubtful causes. Harper is hoping to change into a author having by no means written something, and Charlie at age 28 remains to be on the backside rung of his profession ladder (however someway hanging on to a glamorous mannequin as a girlfriend). Perhaps Harper and Charlie deserve one another, however they do not earn central roles in any romance. The Cupid contrivances to match Rick with Kirsten (together with engineering an elevator mis-hap and a kiss-cam second at Yankee Stadium) are exceptionally far fetched.
