Synopsis: Small-town Sheriff Mark Kaminski (Arnold Schwarzenegger) was beforehand booted out of the FBI for extreme brutality. Now goons working for mob chief Patrovita (Sam Wanamaker) kill an informant and a number of other safety officers, together with the son of FBI Agent Harry Shannon (Darren McGavin). He vows revenge and recruits Kaminski to infiltrate Patrovita’s gang. Kaminski intends to show his loyalty by disrupting the operation of rival mobster Lamanski, however a highly-placed mole will endanger the covert mission.
What Works Properly: Arnold Schwarzenegger’s sheer heft and presence provides a base normal of enjoyable, though his performing is wood and his line supply stiff. The weapon-happy and over-the-top motion scenes are frequent, loud, and typically knowingly wacky.
What Does Not Work As Properly: This limited-budget Dino De Laurentiis manufacturing lacks type and polish, and could be totally forgettable with out Schwarzenegger. The plot is ludicrous, needlessly complicated, and cluttered by too many interchangeable mobsters and tough-talking goons. Ed Lauter is a generic cop, Robert Davi is a hissing rival, and Kathryn Harrold is a token love curiosity with a playing downside and an agenda. None of them depart any form of lasting impression.
