Style: Romance
Director: Jane Wagner
Starring: Lily Tomlin, John Travolta
Operating Time: 105 minutes
Synopsis: In Los Angeles, socialite Trisha (Lily Tomlins) is pursued by seashore bum Strip (John Travolta). She is lonely, going via a divorce, and staying at a seashore home. Strip comes round continuously, and ultimately they begin an affair. Strip is a low-level drug vendor, youthful than Trisha, and a misfit amongst her pals, leading to predictable relationship issues.
What Works Effectively: A few canines cling round Trisha’s seashore home, and they’re cute. For followers of ogling, Travolta spends a lot of the film shirtless, and is usually solely carrying tight black bikini briefs.
What Does Not Work As Effectively: A number one contender for worst romance ever made, that is an excruciatingly unhealthy instance of tone-deaf writing colliding with shallow and unlikeable characters. The script by author and director Jane Wagner grinds away with fingernails-on-chalkboard subtlety, Strip’s pursuit of Trisha a lot nearer to stalking than romancing. His child-man behaviour underlines the age distinction, leading to her imbecilic embrace of an affair with an annoying, homeless, and immature vagrant. Their chemistry-free, charisma-free, and charm-free relationship unfolds to a generic midnight jazz rating, with none character contexts exterior the claustrophobia of their dumbfounding interactions.
Key Quote:
Strip: See, the factor is, most of my pals are undependable. Aside from Gregg, and Gregg is in jail now.
