The Deadpool & Wolverine marketing campaign may be one long fourth-wall-breaking gag, but Kevin Feige isn’t joking about the future of two of Marvel’s most beloved characters. During a roundtable attended by Collider’s Steve Weintraub for Fantastic Four, the Marvel Studios president confirmed what fans have long suspected: Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman aren’t going anywhere — at least, not if Feige and company have their way. When Weintraub asked whether there were behind-the-scenes talks about keeping the duo involved beyond Deadpool & WolverineFeige confirmed that talks were fully underway about keeping the duo under the Marvel banner.
“There have absolutely been discussions. We’re in touch with Ryan a lot. So the answer is yes.”
When Weintraub pressed about both actors returning, Feige cleverly linked back to that infamous line from the movie when he said Jackman would be doing it “till he’s 90, man”. That’s right — Feige not only confirmed ongoing conversations with Reynolds about more Deadpool appearances, but he also acknowledged that talks include Jackman as well. That second part is particularly noteworthy, considering Jackman’s return in Deadpool & Wolverine was once thought to be a one-time multiverse reunion. Now? Not so much.
Hugh Jackman Is Playing Coy About Returning to Marvel
Of course, Jackman isn’t exactly quelling the speculation either. Appearing on The Viewthe actor was directly asked by Sunny Hostin whether he would be part of Avengers: Doomsday — Marvel’s next Endgame-level crossover, set for December 18, 2026. Jackman’s response said a lot without saying anything.
“I really can’t say much, except when you say ‘appear’, (it’s) more like dominate and destroy every other character — I’m kidding. I really have nothing to add, and if I did, I would find a really cool way to not say it, but I actually have nothing to add.”
Let’s be real: that’s basically a confession in Marvel-speak. The Aussie actor’s non-confirmation lands him squarely in familiar Marvel territory — the same zone Andrew Garfield, Patrick Stewartand Tobey Maguire lived in for months before their surprise returns. It’s the “I’m not in it… but I totally am” routine that we’ve seen before, and Jackman’s frustratingly charming demeanor only makes it more obvious. Plus, with Avengers: Doomsday already confirmed to include returning X-Men veterans like Stewart, Ian McKellenand James Marsdenthe absence of Jackman’s Wolverine would stick out like claws on a chalkboard.
